Yet another 357 ream question
« on: November 02, 2010, 06:43:50 PM »
OK I did the 357max ream and never thought to ask  if once I am done with reaming it is there anything else I need to do to it? Lap the inside or any kind of finishing or just clean and have fun?   Thanks

I had the same question. I could see small burrs at the far end of the new chamber. I pushed a 40 cal bronze cleaning brush into the chamber and gave it 5 or 6 turns by hand. The burrs were gone, and the chamber looked a bit more shiny.
Varmint Al has a section on his site where he talks about polishing chambers with a bore mop coated with lapping compound, so if that interests you, look him up.

Gale Mcmillan has written some good articles on barrel break in prcedures etc. He has built a few of those super nice bench rest rifles. Google "Gale Mcmillan rifle barrel break in".
