I picked up quite a few of the SST's a couple of years ago from Lock Stock and Barrel which were sold as blems. I got 500 each of several calibers, figuring to use them up for trigger time and hog hunting.
Since then, I have found that they all shot VERY well in my ,270, 308, and a couple different 7mm calibers.
As for as the .308 loads went, I honestly cannot say just how small a group they would shoot, as I played with several loads, mainly looking for minute of hog accuracy, of around 1-1.5" at 100yds. Being that we shot so many rounds I was simply looking for something cheap to shoot, which would have enough punch to readily drop the hogs within our usual 100yd or less ranges.
The 150 SST's worked wonderfully at loads ranging from around 2000fps up through around 2650fps. Granted these aren't blistering velocities, but they are good for the short 16.5" barrel I have on that rifle. What I was more pleased with was the knockdown I got from them, usually being a one shot ordeal. Granted there are always those which will soak up the first shot like it was nothing, but for the most part the SST's were on par with the factory loads I used in anchoring them on the spot.
Damage was also very acceptable, meaning that if you did hit heavy shoulder bone yes they might make a bit of a mess, but overall they were no worse than the other standard cup and core bullets I had used.
For deer, I haven't used the .308-150, but have the 277-130gr stoked up to just over 3000fps at the muzzle. With these I did notice a bit more damage to the surrounding area of impact. However it was nothing I would call objectionable. They really worked well for the task I loaded them for which was ranges in the 2-300yrd area. While I haven't had but one chance on a deer in this area and I passed, I have taken several hogs with them. They hit like a sledge hammer and simply knock them off their feet. Again similar damage to anything else I have used, and by no means objectionable. They are a bit rough on the closer shots however of around 30 - 75yds, which is to be expected when driving this type bullet at those velocities.
I don't think you will be overly disappointed in them at all. I have worked up accuracy loads of 1/2" or less with the .270 and 7mm ones, just not the .308's. There are just some things that do not require that type of precision. Shooting hogs on the run offhand, through the tangles and brush of a river bottom isn't one of them.
Good luck with yours, and have a great hunting season.
