went to a gunshow in joplin mo this weekend. only thing in the whole place i had any interest in was a all weather green laminated stock ruger 77/50 stainless.very nice condition, mirror bore, good 4x scope.i toted in a nice rossi stainless pistol 357 i purchased years ago for 235$offered 75$ boot and he just flat turned me down.10 min later on my way out he chased me down and said ya.shot it sunday with 100 grns black and some sabots and 44 mag, jhp bullets i had layin around and was very impressed.hadnt shot the rossi in years but im thinkin ill be toteing this gun the whole mz season here.my son has dun claimed my 700 ml remington so maybe ill get some shooting in.anybody else hav one of these rugers?ive read they have probs but im not seeing them so far.good accuracy, easy takedown and cleaning, bolt easy to tear down. cant really see why they quit making them.any advice would be appreciated!

I have one of those, and really like it. At first I got a lot of misfires, so I chucked up the breechplug in the lathe and polished the nipple so caps would fit properly. Then dissasembled the striker and replaced the factory wimpy spring with one from a Rem 700, cut to the proper length. Misfires went away. Still need to do a trigger job on it, there is a lot of creep in the factory trigger.

My barrel sights were useless, 2 feet low at 50M. I got a Williams peep sight for it, and now it is good from 50 to 300M.

I am shooting 500gr. paper patched bullets in it, cast from a NEI mold and patched with 9# onionskin over 100gr. Diamondback FFg. Accuracy is terrific, one big hole at 100M and hits our gongs in the same place at 200. I haven;t tried it on paper at 200, but it just leaves one shiny spot through the spotting scope on a freshly painted gong.

I agree, don't know why they quit making them. They work well!
