« on: November 01, 2010, 02:35:35 AM »
Just got a H&R Handi 280....zeroed in at 100 yds and got nice groups.....only problem...cannot tighten the offset hammer spur....seems the little setscrew is maxed out and just won't tighten....anyone else with this issue....otherwise nice rifle for the price....

Welcome! I'd remove it to see what's wrong, it's threaded all the way thru so it has to bottom out on the hammer, it should have an 8-32 socket head set screw that will go all the way thru and drop out on the inside of the extension if it doesn't stop against the hammer.  ??? It may be rusted or someone use red loctite on it which will require heat for removal, not to be confused with the red thread locker that comes on them from Uncle Mikes.

Ahhh the problem seems to be that the setscrew does not go all the way thru and stop against the hammer....not rusted, no loctite.....will send to H&R Handi Support and see what happens....thanks

I'd contact H&R toll free at (866)776-9292 and let them know the extension is defective, they'll probably just send you a new one, sounds like it didn't get drilled and/or tapped all the way thru.

Nice, I soooo want a .280 next.  lol

I think that may be one of my next ones.  My friend, neighbor and Managing Forester, Todd Miller has one and he had an accuracy issue.  Wouldn't group.  I did all the FAQ checks and put an "O" ring on it, cleaned the latch shelf, and it now drives tacks at 200 and 300 yards.  It is a rifle worthy of mention.  I believe it could replace my 06 and 7-08......I'd still have my .45-70 though ;D

I bought one just for the stock and receiver.  Then I shot it.  Now it's my favorite. (This season).  Now I need a stock and receiver. ;D

Hope yours is as accurate as mine...
