357 Mag to 357 Max
« on: September 29, 2010, 09:34:45 AM »
I'm thinking of getting my 357 Mag converted to a 357 Max but have a couple of questions:

1. It is on the current SB1 Receiver, so Is it Safe ?

2. Talked to my favorite Gunsmith shop, Does $ 90.00 sound about right ?

I have some 360 DW Brass and it fits fine with a 158 grain bullet seated ... so is it a BIG advantage to go the next step to 357 Max ?

It is very much worth doing.  You can save yourself more than half by renting the reamer here on this forum.  See the stickies above.  The SB2 frame is good to go for it.  I've had two maxis so far and would not be without one of them.  The accuracy with the .38s and .357 mags didn't change.  Don't sit around hemming and hawing, do it.  It is certainly my most shot rifle, and very easy to reload for.

SB1 is fine, see 357 Max on an SB1 Frame in the FAQs and the reamer sticky above.

If you can turn a wrench, you can do this yourself for under $30. $90 is too high in my opinion.  This is a simple hand ream.  Read the thread:
