One thing I've found out about skyscreens...they HAVE to see the open sky and you have to use the diffusers...On an overcast day NO diffusers and if the sun is at an angle on a bright sunny day they need to be shaded.  This is the only way I can get something other than Error, error, error.

I've been chronoing my 9.3x62 and 375 H&H the past several days, changing scopes and working on loads...it's been in the high 80's and I have to chase the tree shade all over the yard and be sure the screens see open sky WITH the diffusers to get any readings.  All I do is waste a shot if I get in a hurry and stick the Chrony in the shade UNDERNEATH the trees.  It doesn't seem to matter with the Oehler 33...it wants the diffusers on ALL the time.

FWIW...I put a Muzzle brake on the 375 right off and cut the barrel to 21".  Even with 300 gr bullets at 2550fs it hardly moves off the bags...just comes back, and not all that much...the 9.3x62 is another story...no MB, 23.7" bbl, 286 gr bullets at 2600fs and the muzzle rares up 2 feet in the air from the bench, but again not all that much slap...both about 30-35 lbs...the Otto Special is due for an appointment with the lathe tomorrow to get it straightened out...literally AND figuratively.

I always use the diffusers on my F1 Master Shooting Chrony regardless of the conditions, never have a problem with no readings or errors.

Mine's a Beta...updated a couple years ago from the red box and returned twice for other problems...You're lucky or the Master has different sensors or maybe mine has been Murphy-ized...who knows.

Started off today with two error shots without the diffusers, one right after the other...one error One and one error Two, 300 gr 375 H&H...put the diffusers on, didn't move the tripod, and the following dozen or so shots never missed a beat over about 2 hours and several tripod moves.  All the velocities were consistend with LD or other manual data so at least it isn't reading 200 fs higher like it did when I got the first upgrade back from Chrony.  I was getting some REAL bragging velos's from my 17 Rem!!!

Just something to watch for if you start having inconsistency or errors.
