now im going to go back a bit on what i preach. Im not a big fan of premium bullets but like i said in previous posts i do like nos partitions and speer grand slams. The 145 grand slam is one of my favorite 7mm bullets. Its a premium bullet that has allways given me exceptional accuracy. Ive used it in 757s 280s and 7mags and its allways worked well. Anymore its probably not even considered a true premium bullet as its about equivelent to the bonded core bullets now that are mid priced bullets.

Heavy is better for large game. 160 Nosler Partition or Accubond would be my choice for elk in a 7 mag. As long is it is still standing and you can get a shot keep shooting.

I second shot1.  Personally I don't think a better elk bullet for the 7MM RM has been built than the 160 gr. Partition. I have some 160 gr. Accubonds awaiting testing and believe they will do well.  My rifle likes Reloder 22 as powder and it is a tackdriver but living in Texas makes for few hunts where I actually need a 7MM magnum.

I am a fan of premium bullets.

Took my first elk with my 7mm RM and a 162g Hornady InterLock (BTSP).  The next year I switched to 160g Grand Slams and used them exclusively for 20 years.  Took me that long to recover one and when I did it had destroyed both shoulder joints of a 6x6 bull.

My hunting buddy uses 160g Trophy Bonded and I’ve since switched to 160g North Fork.  Both work great.  At a minimum I’d run a Grand Slam or a bonded core like an AccuBond.  Partitions work great from what I’ve seen since I started hunting elk in ’82 (and have only missed one or two years since).  Can’t tell you how Barnes MRX and TTSX work on elk but they work great on deer and antelope – they will do a deer end-to-end and exit.

For elk I consider the 160g weight to be as good as it gets.

YMMV.

Excuse my "Apples/Oranges" reply but the .280 Rem and .280 AI are fairly close to the 7mm Mag.

I've used the 150 and 160 gr NP's on deer and elk for 20+ yrs and they have never let me down. Even used the 150's in my .280 AI over in RSA on the little stuff; duiker, impala, etc.

It all boils down to PLACEMENT.
