Do you guys swap barrels during season?
« on: August 25, 2010, 06:20:31 PM »
I love my encore and I can really appreciate what it has to offer.  Every year when deer season start to get closer I like to buy a new gun or two, usually something to plink around with or something to fill a specific demand.

I was wondering.  With an Encore or a Contender, do you guys feel comfortable switching barrels out and knowing they keep their zero?  I haven't ever tried it...But I was thinking about ordering another barrel in the next month or two.  But it'd be pointless if I couldn't go hunt Saturday morning, come back to camp, swith to something like a 22 hornet, play around, then switch back to my deer barrel in time for the evening hunt.

Just wondering what other peoples experiences have been.  It seems to me that the scope being on the barrel, and the lock pin fitting as snug as it does, there shouldn't be any issues with it coming off of a zero, but I could be wrong.

I can't speak for Encores, I don't have one.  But I switch barrels all the time on my Contenders and don't loose POI.

I usually set up two or three before the season and leave them alone until the season is over.  It's just one less thing to worry about even though switching is not usually a problem at the range.

I try to keep track of which frame was with the barrel when i sighted it in but doesn't always happen. I don't really worry as  the barrel and scope stay together.

I have not noticed either a P.O.A. difference or group size difference when swapping barrels, even between frames (even between Easy-Open and G2 frames).

As long as the same scope stays with the same barrel, you'll have no problem.  If you switch scopes from one barrel to another, then you'll most likely have to sight in.
