My Bear Kodiak Hunters arrived
« on: July 14, 2010, 10:22:46 AM »
Well if you remember the donation that I was getting, which I also got an original box of Bear Archery arrows with these bows.

And yes, that one on the left had a sight window with pins, elevated rest etc......

After a bit of work on the ugly camo'd one which we will try and remove that fugly paint later.

The one is a 35# Kodiak Hunter, and the camo'd one feels like a 55# as both of these shoot nice, I put the string silentcers on after the pictures were taken.  Both bows shoot great, and are a welcome addition.

I can not wait to get that camo off of the Super Kodiak, and bring the real beauty of the wood back out.

Yes we will be waiting to see what she looks like under that ugly mask..... ;)

Those arrows are something else!  They have to be worth some money and if they aren't they should be!  I can remember as a kid, many, many moons ago, my dad getting me a box just like those with my first bow.  At the time I didn't know anything about bows or arrows for that matter, but I learned to shoot and hunt with arrows just like those.  Seeing them sure brings back a lot of great memories, thank you so much for sharing the pictures!!!!!!!!! ;D

This Rustolium paint on the Super Kodiak is a pain, but I got thru to the serial number and poundage 55# AMO 60" and the serial number starts with a KL.  There is some real pretty laminated wood under all this fugly paint.  This is going to be a slow process, as I found out that even finger nail polish remover will eat the medical gloves.  I'm going to have to get some rubber gloves to work with, but Lamont at 3Rivers Archery was very helpful about the pain staking paint removal process.  He said use acetone and nail polish remover has just that in it.

But it is going to be nice, but I can see some of the wood that is faded, so after I finish up with this it may go to http://www.prairietrad.com/page30.html

I'd sure like to have those Bear Razorheads.

I started shooting in 1963 with a Bear Kodiak Hunter 48#. I've always had a soft spot for the Hunter. Nice bows, thanks for sharing with us.

No, not that I am aware of.  The brace height is right at 10" which might be because of the string twist.  It is common for recurves to have between 8.5" and 10" of brace height.
