I just had a wierd thought. I know purell hand cleaner will burn, but would one of their hand wipes in the individual packets ignite easily? If so, it would make a small, light tinder for survival kits. Has anyone tried lighting one of these things on fire yet?

Never thought of the wipes. I carry the little hand sanitizer bottles to start fires and also use in a sterno stove for the heat source.

Alcohol swabs may work, too, but I was thinking that the hand wipes might be a bit bigger. I wish I had one here to test. If it works, it might be a handy option.

I take ordinary unscented baby wipes and pour rubbing acky into them. About an inch of them in a quart ziplock bag go in my hunting kit. I started this to keep them from freezing into a block. They will wake you right up when scouring tender areas :o, but will also do a good job of getting fat off your hands and are pretty sterile as well.

I did some more research, and it appears that the small alcohol wipes like you see at the doctors will provide a flame that will last a minute or 2 using flint and steel.

I'm also looking into the small foil pouches of white petroleum jelly to use for fire gel. Again, I think medical supply stores will carry these as well.
You wouldn't have to pre-smear your cotton with it, and could be stored without smearing everything else or having their own container.
