What choke
« on: May 25, 2010, 09:03:11 AM »
This may sound stupid to most of you, but I have never shot or even been interested till now the use of a slug gun. What choke do you need to use with a slug gun. What kind of slug would I use if I was to use a smooth bore 12 gauge with the correct choke.

Just get a slug barrel which are called bore choke some places. If ya don't want to spend the money on a slug barrel you can shoot the foster style slugs out of full, modified, or improved cylinder. probaly the more open the choke the bettermod or IC.

If you don't want to spend any money, go with IC choke.  For around $30, you can get a carlson rifled choke tube which is a little more accurate.  Remington sluggers out of a smooth bore are probably good out to 40 to 50 yds.  Try Brenneke and Fiochi slugs for a little more range and accuracy.  You might also consider getting a cheap saddle mount scope or at least some snap on or magnetic rifle sights for it which run around $20.

I have a smooth bore 18" barrel with a cylinder choke how would that do with rifled slugs is it better as good as or worse than a 28" smooth bore with a mod choke unless the 18" barrel is a lot better I think i'm gonna go with the 28" because I like the sights on that one better

Thanx and sorry I changed the conversation.
Look a distraction!!!
