Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is pushing Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal to ignore federal rules and build berms to protect his state's coastline.
According to The Hill, Palin tweeted Monday evening: “Gov.Jindal:to avoid ravished coast, build the berms.Ask forgiveness later;Feds are slow to act, local leadership&action can do more for coast.”
The federal government has yet to sign off on Jindal's plan, which has angered the governor. Many Republicans have complained about the Obama administration’s response to the oil spill.
Jindal said Sunday that the Army Corps of Engineers had approved a limited amount of reconstruction of sandy barrier islands that Louisiana had first built during Hurricane Katrina. But Jindal complained that not enough construction had been approved or quickly enough, and that BP should be made to pay for the construction.
