357 options questions

i am thinking about joining the group of 357 handis.   i have a barrel that i am going to try and trade for one but i am not sure what kind of 357 options are out there.   are they all set up for scopes or do some have factory sights?  are they all 22'  are there ones that are better for the max reaming?  thanks everyone and thank you to all our military people out there past and present.

I don't have all the answers, my older .357 is 22" with click adjustable sights and ejector. The new ones are 22" scope only with extractor, search for 'talo', I think there are some 16" special order barrels with that name.

The hardest part of what you want is going to be the trade I would think, once most of us get a .357 barrel they have a tendency to keep them, but I have seen it hapen so dont give up, what are you going to trade ? Mine is set up for a scope and I reamed it to a .357 max. I like mine so much that I'll probly have it put in my casket with me.

yep, they are quite nice to have.... got 2, one mag with sights and one max without
both are extreme accurate.  and they will be passed along with many others to my son.
i'm gonna be planted wif my 7.62x39 cus it kan't be beat or had... no !

The Talo Trappers have an 18¾" barrel, come with sights, drill and tapped for scope rail and have pallet wood stock, look back a few pages and you'll find several posts on them, the barrels aren't available in the accessory barrel program.....yet anyway. 357mag accessory barrels only come with a scope rail on a 22" barrel.

thanks i have a 243 but i am sure it is going to be hard to find someone to trade for a 357    i was not sure if there were 357's with open sights or if they were all set up for scopes.   it just seems all the ones i see on here are set up for scopes and since it is not a long range gun open sights would keep it simple and fun.   i guess i will just have to post it on the trade page and see what happens.   thanks again.

Pre 2008 357 barrels came with sights and there are lots of those out there, just be specific in your WTB or WTT listing.

The older, pre 1987, 357 barrels have iron sights.  The rear sight is dovetailed, but I don't remember if the front was screwed on or dovetailed.  Also, D&T for scope rail.  Barrel profile looked slimmer to me than what is now offered.  The barrel I have described was a mid 1980s vintage, nickled plated, offered as a combo with a 20ga. smoothbore barrel.
