Savage Mo.16 feeding problem.
« on: May 13, 2010, 01:45:22 PM »
Hi,I bought this Rifle used in 308.It is the older style with the magazine box attached to the action.I can not get it to feed the cartridges straight up.They come up all cockeyed and the bolt can`t pick them up.I dont know if the feed spring is bad or what.Does any one know if the new type magazine box and follower can be used????I want to make this work right ,because it shoots so dang good. Thanks ahead for any advice.Huntz :(

You cannot use the new type magazine.  My guess is that someone put the follower in backwards (front to back), also, the spring may be in backwards.  Larry

I have a Savage 116 in .30-06, and the magazine spring was in backwards from teh factory. Turned it around, and never had another problem.

It is easy to mess up the spring and follower on these, they sit in the bottom of the stock and the magazine sides are attached to the receiver, so when you take the action out of the stock the parts fall out.  Larry

Thanks guys,The spring must not be right. It does not matter which way its in it does not work.I ordered a new one from Brownells for $9.00.Actually if you look at the cut outs in the follower,it should only go in one way.Huntz
