Fishermen and Schrimpers getting sick
« on: June 03, 2010, 11:57:22 AM »
From Drudge-Reports coming in that many commercial fishermen and schrimpers are getting violently sick at sea, with vomiting, diarrhea and dizziness. Speculation is the combination of oil fumes and toxic dispersion chemicals are causing widespread illness among these guys. What else...

I would imagine the fumes off the spill would make them nauseous. I wouldn't want to smell it all day. Diesel or kerosene makes me woozy. I just wonder what it will do to the seafood industry? Being that it is floating on top I am guessing more of a harmful thing to mammals, right?

Back around 1990, I was a coach for the New York State B-B Gun Championship team in the Daisy Shooting Education Program, and the International B-B Gun Match was shot in Tulsa.  Somebody in Tulsa had the brilliant idea of giving each of the participants a small bottle containing 1 or 2 ounces of crude oil as a souveneir at the banquet.  A bottle was dropped by one of the kids (surprise!!!).  The smell filled the whole banquet hall, I couldn't believe that something that small could stink that bad!

I can't imagine how bad the smell would be if you were surrounded by a few million gallons of it all day long.  I would head out of there quickly.

Maybe crude oil is an acquired taste (or smell) and takes a while to assimilate.  I guess if you can't stand the smell of what's cooking, you'd better get out of the kitchen.  On the other hand, the dispersant might be something entirely different.

I'm calling for an in-person Presidential investigation into the matter.  No leader should expect his people to endure hazards that he himself hasn't thoroughly experienced.

Indeed, he should consume as much as possible to ensure the safety of American citizens. We need to know just how much one can be exposed to without being harmful.

The "dispersion chemicals" are dishwashing liquid.

My wife claims that I am allergic to dishwashing.

I believe dish washing makes men more ill than oil ever could. :D
