Scope for a 357 Herrett?
« on: November 19, 2003, 11:46:02 AM »
First off let me say greetings to all from a new member.I recently acquired a 357 Herrett barrel for my Contender for use on deer. Now I'm needing to find a scope for it.I found a Swift 4X locally that looked pretty good, but was wondering about the recoil/durability factor.Does the Herrett buck hard enough to tear up a cheaper scope or should I be looking at the Leupold/Burris stuff?Looking for opinions.Thanks,-Mike.

You are braver than me if you put a Swift on it. Besides 4X is more than needed which reduces the FOV. I'd go with a 2X. First choice would be the Bushnell and second the Leupold. Main reason here is the Leupold has only a 20mm objective. I think the Bushnell is a 32 mm but maybe a 28. Forget at the moment. The Leupold 2X fades before legal shooting light ends where I hunt and costs me some precious hunting time both early and late.
