Got The "Closed Range Blues"
« on: April 20, 2010, 01:43:28 PM »
Got my 357 mag reamed to max last week. Called the secretary this morning to tell her I'd be gone, then found out that the range I was heading to was closed on Mondays & Tuesdays! Major bummer!

Well, at least I've got a few loads to try whenever I can get another day free.

I'm limited on powder right now. Loaded up some 158 gr jhp, and some gas checked lee swc that are right at 170 with the gas check. Using 2400 powder with both. Gonna try to find some 1680, as well as some heavier bullets. Working with sb1 frame so will likely stay under maximum load data.

Who all shoots cast in their maxis? Most of what I see is about jacketed bullets 180 grains and over.

The range is open all the time here.  You are welcome.  If you can stand out there, wind chapping your lips and face, blowing your target away, hands turning to ice inside your gloves, Y'all come and shoot.  This range aint much, but it's never closed.

The range I use is closed the first weekend of every month, for the exclusive use of the National Guard.  Many times I've suffered from CRS and showed up there only to turn around and go back home.

petemi,

You make it sound like so much fun that I wish I could come right over, but duty calls and I must stay here in this sissy, city life!

You are welcome to visit in the Desert.  Our range is only closed on Wednesday morning for maintenance.

Of course the wind is blowing now.  Will be for the next month.
