first Handi deer
« on: April 11, 2010, 11:19:11 AM »
I found this pic on my old computer of my wife's first handi deer. It was shot with a 243 Superlight Compact. A small 6 pointer:
Live simple. Hunt Hard. Love Life.

I thank God everyday for my loving wife and all the fond memories of hunting with my Papa from a child until now.

Please take time to take a kid hunting, it will be a life long memory and blessing for both of you!

Congrats. Same here, I'v taken it out but every time I get something it's when I leave the handi at home.

I'm the opposite; never see anything when I have my bolt gun or No 1.
But when I have my handi 30-30, the game is on; two bucks, three does, a bobcat, a fox and half of a coyote in the last two seasons.
And a few dozen quail when I had the 28 ga shotgun barrel on.

The difference between people who do stuff and people who don't do stuff is that the people who do stuff do stuff.

I'm curious about the "half of a coyote". I usually only see whole ones around here.

I shot the back half to slow him down, then someone else shot the front half to stop him.
I got two shots off with my handi, one at about 15 yds that surprised both of us, then one at 75 that got the back half.
Counting it as a half. 8)

Tim

It was her first day out with it. She shot it once on paper to make sure she was comfortable with it and then went hunting. I shot about 80 rounds through it and cleaned before I even put the scope on it. It had maybe 120 rounds through it when I sold it.

Kinda like my wife. I gave her a box of 20 factory 30-30, 150SP. It lasted ten years. One shot each year to check -0- and one shot-one kill on whitetail. Better yet, she would usually get hers just before I scored, finish up field dressing hers and do mine. She said she was already messy.
BTW, I still got her and she aint for sale or rent.
