45-70 reload questionS?

What are safe pressure limits of handis & ultras.-45/70.   I'm getting a new REAL stainless receiver 45-70 ultra. next anybody try the barnes blue tipped boat tail .458 bullets in 45-70? 300 gr. I've been searching for bullets with better bc's and actually the barnes original 300 gr. looks about the best. I want to stay in the 300 gr. or less category, but theres not too many choices. any thoughts welcome!

I've always had good luck using 300 grainers with 51grs. of 3030, and 30grs. of 2400. I've never seen any bullets under 300gr. for the 45-70.

Actually just bought a box of the TTSX 300 grainers.  Havent loaded any yet but the tech guy at barnes told me to use the same data for the 300 gr TSX FB.  According to everything I've read here, the handi will stand up to the hot Ruger No. 1 loads.  The question is can your shoulder. ;)  If you wanna push the max, my manual shows 2569 fps with the 300 gr TSX FB out of a 24" barrel.  OUCH!  Barnes also makes a 250 gr TSX flat nose that can achieve velocities in excess of 2800 fps out of a 24" tube.

In reality..punching them that fast for the small yardage differences really isn't worth the pounding you will get from them.I have several 300 grain loads that will do 2500fps..and out past 200 yards..any breeze is going to cause you problems

I shoot the 300gr TSX-FB using Barnes ruger data in my SS 45-70 Ultra Hunter, I have a box of the 300gr TTSX SOCOM bullets, but haven't shot them yet.
