« on: March 18, 2010, 07:54:00 PM »
Any real reason for going with the slightly longer 12" barrel. It isnt going to make much of a differance with the 44 mag cartridge. All my shots will be under 100 yrds, 40 is the average here in NY woods.I'm ordering a set-up tomorrow afternoon. ???

Maybe 2 more inches that can get snagged on a branch or get in the way , at the wrong time?
If its not going to do you any good ballistics wise,no sense lugging it around with you.

Its personal opinion in the pistol calibers more than anything else.  I like the way a longer barrel feels, but I have a couple of real short ones that I like as well.  If you can shoot both and decide which one you like.

I kind of like 10 inch barrels but 12 inch wouldn't be bad either.  What I liked about a 10 inch 357 Herrett I used in South Africa was the fact I could easily fit the whole gun into a small day pack.

I've not shot a 12" .44, but I have shot a 10" and a 14", and the biggest difference is in the noticable recoil.  I'd bet there's some difference there in the 12" as well.  If we're talking factory barrels, the 12" I believe is full bull with 2 forend bosses, the 10" is tapered and has just one boss.
