     Of course, that's not the worst of what they are doing. Just this weekend, they caused the deaths of 49 people in the city of Reynoso (on the border), three of them employed by the American consulate. That however, is nothing new..by spending ridiculous sums for "brain poison", they are causing the deaths of thousands in Mexico and no telling how many here each year.
   Also, heavy drug users are financing the Taliban and Al Queda.
   The "war on drugs" has been hounding the supply side for years, perhaps they also should to get tougher with the demand side.
  ... After all, if there were no demand ..there would be no supply.
   
   Too many poeople getting killed because of those unnecessary, disgusting habits.

Dry up the demand, and the supply will slow down then stop.

I sort of have a personal dog in this fight.  My oldest son went to using drugs when he was 19.  I put him on the street.  It took two years for him to drag himself down to zero.  During that time I did not know where he was or what he was doing.  I just knew I was not going to tolerate it, not around his little brother.

I received a call one day, from a woman I did not know.  She informed me he was naked, lying behind a McDonalds, and the temp was below zero.  Totally without anything, period.  He was crying and asking her for help.  His so called friends had stolen his clothes to sell for drugs, and left him to freeze to death.   

I went to pick him up, and was pretty rough on him.  I did take him to my place and let him shower.  I bought him two packs of undershorts, two packs of tee shirts, two packs of socks, three pull over shirts, two pairs of jeans, and one pair of shoes.  Then back on the street.

He said the second time I put him on the street is what broke him.  He realized it was get clean or die.  He got clean, and is today a career Navy man.

Something needs to be done with drug users.  Not sure what, but I tend to be rather drastic.  Take away any and all kids, permanently.  Take away drivers license, take away pass ports, Publicise their identification, and put them in a supervised work program, till they can maintain them selves without drugs.  If after five years they can not get it togeather, line them up against the wall like China.  Like I said I tend to be rather drastic. 

Got no use for drug users.

I told both of my wifes kids when I moved in with her if they had drugs with them they had better leave them at the end of the road. I would be the first to do something about it if they dint. Both the girl and the boy knew my connection to law enforcement. Never have had a problem with the kids and drugs. Boy did try some pot one time when him and the BOYS went camping over night. Kid was sick for 3 days and swore never again.

Well, the "war on drugs" is now decades old.  How well you guys think we are doing?  If you ask me I would say the "war on drugs" is good business for the ones in the war.  If we slowed down or stopped spending so much money fighting this then that would also dry up all the dealers would it not?  Much in the same way booze was?

But, if we did that we would not have the Drug Task Force and all of the other government groups with a hand out wanting more tax payer money for the "war".

You forgot the main enemy they are supporting, the one both of those REALLY work for. The CIA. Were it not for drugs they would lose their primary income source so the war on drugs is a war in name only, the government has no desire to end drug use in fact they want it to be increased.

Well Sourdough, I know that had to be hard to do! I haven't had to do that but I only hope I wudda had the will to do what you did. I have seen it first hand and can tell you that "enabling" is not the way to go.

As far AS THE "WAR ON DRUGS" IS CONCERNED, I dunno, I wish I had the answers, It does seem to me that "WE" dont seem to have the will, in this country, to do what it takes to eliminate Drugs on the streets, or the people that do em! Elimination may be the way out, Let them do it to themselves.

I like Sourdoughs plan, but I would make it even tougher.  Anyone caught using, or selling illegal drugs get 1 year at hard labor.  They do it again and they get a bullet.  Any adult who provides it to kids--death penalty; no second chance.  Kids who are users--drug reform school until they are clean plus 1 year.  If they offend again--prison until adult.

Just like any other war, the war on drugs should be conducted like you really mean it.  The idea that we can, or should just stop the war and let people use drugs as they please is insane.  Every place it has been tried has turned into a cesspool.

I grew up in a time and place when there were no drugs, except the liquid types, which were bad enough, but compared to drugs, booze was very small potatoes.  It was definitely a better time.

Japan solved their drug problem years ago.  They make all drug users go through "cold turkey" in a padded cell.  They either get it out of their system or die.  They shave their heads, clip their nails, and put the in a padded cell with very few clothes so they won't hurt themselves.  They no longer have a heroin or opiate problem.  Don't know about the other drugs.  If you have no mercy on the users, it will dry up. 

Another thing.  Only 3 companies in the world make the chemicals to manufacture either cocaine or some type of drug.  Two are in the US and one in Germany.  90% of this chemical goes to Columbia.  If they wanted this to dry up, they would not allow this chemical to be exported, and we could get with Germany to make their company stop also.

Now, marijuana can be grown here.  Poppies also for the opiates, but it is illegal. 

The only other solution is to legalize it and tax it, and have users sign for it.

  With what we know now and what we can observe almost every evening with the various" reality cops" shows on TV..
  We see meth heads with no teeth (at 25), scabs all over their faces. People acting lower than a whale's belly, young women selling themselves to diseased creeps, crackheads, stealing from their own families, robbing corner stores and sometimes killing or being killed..just for a "fix"...
  With what everyone must know, I really cannot even begin to comprehend why a person would ever try even the smallest particle of any of that junk.
  Couldn't understand that silliness when I was fifteen years old still see no reason for it in the midst of my seventh decade of life..
