45-70 contender 16 in ported

  I want to share this with members. Was about to give up  on this barrel tryed 3031,4198 and h322 with 300 gr hp bullet. moved bullet all the way out to kissing lands,floated forearm,Carried lucky rabbit foot. Tryed all the tricks could not get it to shoot under 2 inchs at 100 yd. Then 57.0 gr of varget 3/4 in group...BINGO...

Glad to see you got the groups down in size.  I can imagine that you were probably thinking you had a bad barrel with 2" groups.  I'm still searching for better groups with my .308, they aren' bad, but I know that it should be capable of less then 1" @100 yards.  When I had a contender in 357 herrett, it was capable of less then 1/2" groups @ 100 yards.  Keep working at it.
