Another BC
« on: February 23, 2010, 11:39:54 AM »
Just received my new Buffalo Classic, this is my second I sold the other about 8 months ago (brand new unfired) because I was short of money. But this time hope I will keep that one. Two questions, take a look at the photos do you believe the rifle has enough lug engagement to prevent (or help) pop open. And I noticed some "scuffings" on the receiver but I believe my first BC has same "problem" but not really difficult to correct with some gun blue.

Latch engagement can't really be seen in that pic,  follow the directions in the barrel fitting to see what it actually is, engagement will increase as the parts get used to each other, that's why it's important to close the action firmly when it's new(Handi Basics 101). ;)

My .500 S&W had a latch engagement problem when new, but after closing the action firmly for one range session, the problem was gone so it doesn't take long to get the surfaces to mate up.

When shooting its easy to forget to 'slap' it firmly closed until you really get an idea about how its locking up. They seem to often 'seat in' after a bit so dont get too anxious to go after it with 'cutting instruments of destruction' until you know for sure and for certain you have a problem.
Even if you do have to, this is something you can do if you follow the FAQs rather than sending it in.
