Firearm transfers between WI and IL
« on: February 18, 2010, 11:58:38 AM »
Anybody here know of any FFL's in the south central part of Wisconsin that will handle a trade between Wisconsin and Illinois residents?  I've worked a trade with a fellow in Wisconsion (before I knew he was out of state), and I'm trying to find an FFL that will run the guns through his shop (pistol for rifle) if that makes any difference (pistol will be going to Wisconsin resident, which is why I figure we have to use a Wisconsin FFL).  Any info is much appreciated.

Generally speaking all will at least any gunshow as opposed to a big box store will. It won't be free but most will do it for a fee. Whatever store you do most of your business with locally would be the place to ask first.

Thanks GB.  I called a local (Illinois) dealer (non-big box) and he gave me the name of one in Beloit, WI that he uses, but when I called this guy, his response was "we don't do that for individuals".  He then suggested I was wasting time doing it that way and that I should just get the other fellows driver's license and address and make the trade.  I had to remind him that would be a violation of the '68 GCA, but his opinion was "well whatever".  Was hoping someone on here knew a WI dealer that understood what can and can't be done, legally that is.

The person on the other end should make the arrangements on his end. If he can't or won't then I'd be real suspicious of the deal. You should only have to deal with the FFL on your end. He should make the arrangements at his end and then the two FFLs need a copy of each others license.

We should be able to deal with only one FFL.  And, it will have to be the one in his state as I will be transferring a handgun to him, while he is only transferring a rifle to me (since we live in adjoining states, I can pick up the rifle from the FFL in Wisconsin, but he can't pick up a handgun from an out of state FFL).

Thanks 1sourdough.  Delavan may be a bit out of the way, but I'll keep it in mind if I can't find someplace closer.
