Pachmayr's
« on: February 14, 2010, 03:17:07 AM »
I'm probably the only person who doesn't understand this, so I"m looking to be educated. Pachmayr appears to offer two different designs of there Gripper type of grips. One is called decelerator and the other is just called gripper. What, if any, is the difference between these.    Thanks                lnewby

If I'm wrong I know the other guys will straighten me out but I think the difference is finger grooves. One does and one doesn't.

I think the "Decelerator" grips have air pockets or "shock absorbers" molded into the back of the grip.  Helps to soften the heavier recoiling calibers.

The gripper style grip has finger grooves....The presentation style is the original grip and did not have finger grooves.  The gripper comes in two variations....regular and decelerator.  Dezynco described it well.  The logo on the side of the grip is a different color....I think the regular gipper logo is brass colored and the decelerator is more of a stainless color.  If you have both side by side it is easy to feel the difference by poking the back of the grip with your finger.  I really prefer the decelerator gripper.  All of these variations are for the old style Contender(anything before G-2) only.  To the best of my knowledge there are no variations in their offerings for the G-2 or Encore, except for the Encore forends.

As far as I know, you can only get Decelerators for the G2.  I have a set, but don't use them much because they are really heavy.  I have a 8" 45-70 barrel being built, and I'm sure I'll want them for that!
