New barrell tapped wrong????
« on: February 12, 2010, 09:14:28 AM »
I just recently bought a new G2 frame and a new barrell.Guess what? I just now installed new mount and scope and found out that the holes are tapped wrong.Anyone ever had this happen to them?I waited till now to get a scope on it and it points to the right.I am sure the Gun Shop will get me another one no problem.

Never seen that before, and I've been through at least 2 dozen barrels.  They all work just fine.  What type of scope mount are you useing?  I have a Burris mount for a Contender that no matter how you shake it up, you cannot mount it the way they say to mount it.  It's backwards from the directions!  If you mount it the way that's recommended, the barrel will not close.

I am using one the Game Reapers from DNZ.Nice mount, well seems to be.I took it back off today and remounted it.It seem that I can apply pressure to the left and get it to line up better, seems a little odd to me,but it did work.Still concerns me though. If this ^$%$ snow melts I might get a chance to shoot my guns again.Got two new barrell and haven't shot either one yet.

Sounds like the problem is with the scope mount, not the barrel.  You might see if one of the inexpensive Weaver mounts will line up correctly.  If so, then it's a problem with the Game Reaper mount.  The Weaver mounts are usually about $12.00 or so.

I  believe I might have solved the mystery. The local gun shop ordered me one for an Omega,I did question it,but they told me they all are the same,by comparing on line, there is a different p/n for my application.Has to be for a reason they make a different number.

Why did you have to Tap for a Scope Mount to start with  ???
What is Or from where was the Barrel Born
Is it I am so far from G2 that the new barrels are straight Blank
other than the Lug
All I ever did was remove standard notched sites and install weaver base
lock-tite just a tad and Mount Scope
Please educate me and deepen my reason to stay Clear of G2 and bHO

That is still all you have to do - remove the rear sight and mount the scope base.  I think the TC Custom Shop rifle and carbine barrels that are ordered with sights have the rear sight mounted closer to the rear 1/3rd of the barrel, and are drilled and tapped for scope mounts also.  No need to remove the rear sight to mount a scope like you do with a pistol barrel.

If you order a barrel drilled and tapped for scope only, then it will mount in the usual place, no screw holes at all for front and rear sights.

TwoHats,
I glad you figgured it out!  I've never seen any TC barrels with the screw holes in the wrong place!

You're right, the mount for the Omega shouldn't fit a Contender.  I think the Encore and Omega can use the same mount.  I would return it to the dealer and get my money back or exchange it for the proper mount.

Went back to the gun shop and the owner which I know well and is a gunsmith was there. He noticed the fitment problem right off and was frustrated that his guys didn't pick up on it.Anyhow,he reordered the correct one. Thanks for all the inputs again. It's good to get feedback on issues that are mind boggling...
