How old is a H&R 058 combo gun?
« on: January 30, 2010, 01:06:44 PM »
I bought a H&R 058 30-30 with a 20ga shotgun barrel today. It is a pretty neat little rig. How old are these guns? I have seen other gauge shotgun barrels and even heard of a 22 Jet. Were there other rifle calibers? I collect savage 219s but this is the first H&R I have purchased. Shotgunner

The model 058 combos were discontinued in 1985, made in 20 ga./.30-30, .22 Rem. Jet, .22 Hornet, .357 Mag., or .44 Mag., it was also made in other shotgun chamberings starting in 1974. See the FAQs for build year code.

With exception of the 058 combos, I think the 058 was a shotgun only, 158 was available in several rifle chamberings as well as shotguns that weren't combos.

Nice combo, SG. The 30-30 can be downloaded to a great 32-20 equiv. and be good for small varmints, plinker, etc. as well as the 'deer & black bear' load in factory. If you reload use spitzers for more range.

I have been loading for several savage 219s for several years and I love the versatility. This one is interesting but not a savage and I will probably turn it over. It would make a neat beginners gun. It would also be great in a camp or camper, with the right loads you would be ready for anything. I have a plan to make up a soft case with a 219 and a full choke 12 ga barrel, an IC 20ga, a 30-30 and a scoped Hornet. Should be able to take any game in PA. Shotgunner
