300WSM Encore barrel ?
« on: December 20, 2009, 04:47:05 AM »
I have been looking, and have not found, so I was wondering, do they make a 300WSM barrel in 15" for the Encore with a muzzle brake?  I think this would be cool...

thanks..

they started to but then everyone backed away in all Encores. They started to make the throats real long to let the bullet jump start to try to keep the pressure down. I tried a 300 WSM in a Encore rifle BB barrel but had pressure signs, had BB cut  off and rechamber in 308. In  a pistol it would hardly be worth the flame from the  barrel and would not be able to get the velocity expected. I did alot of  figuring a few years ago and went with the 308 over the 30-06 and 300 WM in  a 16 1/4" pistol.

Thanks for the info everybody.  I guess I will look for either the 300WM or a .308 in the pistol barrel.  I have the .308 in the Encore rifle.

Thanks again..

The 308 in the 15" encore barrel is one of the better 30 caliber barrels

I suggest the 308 or 30-06 and even the 300 Win Mag. The Short mags make the chamber walls to thin.

JD says he won't make  anything WSM in encore as previous guys have said.......case head diameter is too big. At modern 60,000 PSI pressures he says case head can't go over 300 Win mag in size. If so, pressure must drop correspondingly. I have a 2 monster encores in 470 Nitro express and 416 Rigby both in 8 in. and 13 in. but the pressures are 35-40,000 PSI. 308 is nice or 300 win mag. tried and true

That Avatar is a scary proposition. Any chance of a full size photo? Did SSK do the work?
