1st handi kill

I got my 1st Handi-rifle kill Friday evening during Iowa's Jan. Doe Season.

I ranged her at 221 yrds.  She went about 20 yrds before going down.

Thanks to everyone on the site for their wealth of information!!  I will be posting another thread shortly that I hope someone checks out!

I am a firm believer in meat in the freezer! Never have been able to eat horns! Great shot! I thought you needed a $1000 setup to shot a deer that far! (My friends are impossible, but that is another story!).

Some say the meat without the testosterone tastes better.
All I have ever tasted was doe meat so I dont know.
Do Bucks have a stronger gamey taste ?

When did Iowa add a rifle season?

I lived there 25 years ago, and I'm pretty sure it was shotgun only.

You are correct.  The state of IA is shotgun/muzzleloader only unless you are hunting in the bottom 2 tiers of counties during the January Antlerless season that runs from Jan 11-31.....which I was.

Bows are my weapon of choice outside of this season, but this season is a great time to get rid of a few "stand-busters"!

good job i use a 243 and the gun has killed 8 deer and one fox to bad it aint a handi

Glad to see a positive report of a 243 Handi...the old inaccuracy pleas for help get a little tired after a while (no offense meant to any previous 243 Handi posts).
