Are Remington double rifles any good?
« on: February 20, 2009, 03:16:48 AM »
I saw a shooting show the other night about using double rifles in Africa.  I've never really given a double rifle much thought until I saw that show.  Thinking it was at least worth looking into I got online and WOW double barreled rifles aren't cheap at all.  Out of all of the double rifles I found it seemed like the remington was the most reasonably priced.  I'd be interested in a side by side 30-06 and I think it'd be great for the right hunt.

Does anyone here have a remington double rifle?  If so is it any good?

Remington was supposed to have brought out their SxS double rifles a few years ago, but I don't think they ever got off the ground. It was a Remington tagged Bakial and was to be offered in either 30/06 or 45/70. At one time Bakial had O/U rifles also. I've had my hands on one of these O/Us, though never shot it, and wasn't very impressed.

***EDIT*** Up in the Big Bore section of this forum, someone was talking about handling one of the 45/70s. Sorry to have been misleading with my comments of them not ever making it on the shelves.    HWD

Speaking of doubles I saw one at the Cabela's store in Buda, Texas not long ago-a .577 Jeffrey in leather take-down case (of course). The bore size of those twin barrels was something to behold. It could have been mine for 25 grand, unfortunately they wouldn't accept 30 yr. lay-away. Kix

I've got one of the last Remington Baikal SXS 30.06 doubles that came into this country and really love this rifle. Had to have a local stockmaker lower the comb 3/8" near the pistol grip and 3/4" at the heal but, now it come right up to the line of sight quickly. Couldn't even get down on the comb to see sights at all before he cut the comb down. Didn't want to mount a scope but, if all else failed would of. haven't shot this gun since probably Aug. '09 but, with surplus CMP ammo gun will shoot 3/8" at 25 yards. Think this will make a perfect Wisconsin or Missouri whitetail deer rifle. No instructions came with to tell how to regulate the barrels but, managed any how. Now, probably keep this gun forever.Got only just over $600 in the gun but, very pleased with it. Need to find a mate in 45/70 now.

I'd sure liked to have had one of the .45-70s.
