.357 Maximum question:
« on: January 17, 2010, 12:12:08 PM »
Just started working up a load for the Maximum, it has a 1-15 3/4" twist. Seems to like 158 gr but can't hold 170 under 2-3". Question is what are you guy's finding your 15 3/4" twist likes in the way of bullets and powders? I've tried IMR 4227 and Hogdon Lil-gun so far.

FWIW, mine shot 170gr Dan Wesson factory ammo into 1½" groups at 100yds, same twist, it shoots 240gr cast about the same as a 35 Rem, 200gr cast 1". I'll be working with the 180gr Speer FP and A1680 if I ever get to the range with my current 357Max which has the same twist.

I have to see what my twist rate is.. it's a '80's factroy maximum.

I shoot 180 SSP's to about and inch or less at 100 yards. Using a near max load of AA1680 powder.
