Can NH frame be fitted with a 270 WIN barrel?
« on: January 16, 2010, 04:37:29 AM »
I looked at the sticky and it seems to me the NH frame made in 1993 is one of the earlier ones and cannot be used with a 270 barrel...do I understand it correctly?

it will fit if you "fit it", if i gather what has been said here, the factory won't do it.
i had a 94 frame and it locked up tight to a 2006 .223
as long as its a sb2 it might work.....
good luck

Read the frame strength page in the FAQs, the 270 was available in 1993, but as John said, they won't fit any high pressure accessory barrels to frames made before 2000, but they will replace a barrel on an original 270 rifle if it were defective, no other high pressure accessory barrels tho.  But you can fit one if you want, it's more of a liability thing for them since they are pre-Marlin who9 bought H&R1871 in 2000, you aren't going to experience a catastrophic failure.  ;)

Tim my question was more about the receiver itself, and would it withstand the pressures of the 270 or other hi pressure rounds. I know I could fit it and get a good lock up but I was confused about the pressure issues with older receivers.

That's explained in the FAQs, older receivers were in fact not built to the same strength standards as more recent frames.
