sportster barrel diameter
« on: September 03, 2009, 12:59:27 PM »
Guys I need some info,
I have a BC stock and forearm I want to put on a .22.The problem is the diameter of the new sportster barrels is to small and I think that it would look goofy in a BC forearm.
Someone told me that the older sportster barrels were the same dia as the centerfire barrels In fact a guy measured his forearm off of an old Pardner .22. He said the forearm channel is the same size a standard centerfire barrel.
Anyone know for sure about older barrels?
Thanks

All of H&R's modern produced forends have the same barrel channel except some shotgun forends, but some barrels have a thinner profile at the forend, the Superlights are for sure as are the 22Lr and 22mag, but they still come with the same forend as any other H&R including bull barrels, there will just be a little more space for the lighter barrels in the barrel channel. Get the BC Carbine forend for the 22Lr barrel, it will work fine. pre-87 H&R barrels did have thinner profiles, very similar to the Superlights and the 22lr/22mag, just ahead of the barrel swell they reduced heavily in size, then were fairly straight with minimal taper to the muzzle, where modern centerfire standard barrels reduce in size a little ahead of the barrel swell and then taper fairly steeply in comparison towards the muzzle.

Bought a new Sportster today and put BC stocks on it and the look fine,no problem.
My rifle came with an all metal rear sight. Thought some came with plastic rear sights?

Just the Versa Pack that I'm aware of, the 500S&W had plastic sights.
