Varmint/Predator Hunting in AK

Anyone done any varmint/predator hunting around the Interior?  I've got the urge to give it a try this winter and thought I'd try to get some AK specific info here before I ask over on the Varmint/Predator board.

I'm surprised no one has answered you on this.  I know folks do calling etc in the interior.  Looks like they're not eager to share info.  Its been a very long time but folks I knew in college used to cruise the roads and call coyotes and foxes.  Nowdays private property is a significant issue.  Make sure you know where you are and that you have permission on private property.  I'd expect you could find coyotes, lynx, foxes - look especially for areas where the hare population is up or falling off.  You may want to get off the roads a few miles too.  Have a friend who trapped quite a few wolves in the Lake Louise area 2 years ago.  I heard the wolves were thick in the Lake Louise to Glennallen area.  Haven't been in that country myself for over 20 years.  Good luck.

Coyotes

There are a few guys down here that hunt coyotes.  Some call using a rabbit call.  The season has been opened up as more and more of them are around and disease is catching up.  I have seen them in Anchorage.  Foxes area all over the place in Alaska.  You might also call in a wolf or a wolverine.

If you can find a moose kill it is a great place to set up and watch for varmits.  Up on the Yukon a wolverine dug under the snow pack at one site and set up house.  I could just never catch it there. :roll:

A buddy and I are gonna try a couple of spots down the Rich where we've both seen coyotes out in the Tanana River plain.  At least we will whenever things decide to freeze hard.  And judging from the rain falling right now that might be awhile. :evil:

Funny, usually it is warmer in Valdez.  But were getting some cold weather and a sinking frost line.  I think my construction class has finished their last shed for the season as we work outside.  Toughens the kids up for the real world. :roll:
