Silly question!
« on: December 15, 2009, 04:34:22 PM »
I bought my .223 handi new last Dec. 08.  The serial number confirms that it was produced in 05 (V prefix).  My question or really I am just wondering, did it really take that long to sell or does the company have that many frames on the shelves?  This would probably make my barrel a 1 - 12 twist but I have yet to confirm this.  Was bought at wally world, I guess they could have made a large purchase of the rifles and it took that long to sell them all.  I just thought it was odd.   ;D

I got one a few weeks ago and it is an 07.  Stuff sits around in inventory for who knows how long: at the factory, at the distributor, at the dealers.... until bought.

Last year Wholesale Hunter blew out Handis for under $200. Even desirable 30-30. Guys were getting guns more than 10 years old with ejectors and laminated pw stocks. I bought a new 30-30 last year with an NN serial number.

EXACTLY!  Today in this economy I doubt the manufacturer keeps that much inventory. But the distributors buy this and sell it, if it doesn't sell as fast or readily as predicted it sits till it does. Retailers like WalMart buy huge amounts for there stores. This could have been in the "system" there for all this time easily!

It makes me wonder some times is the # of H&R's sittin on shelves the reason Remington seems so slow to produce more guns faster .Wanting to maybe get "thier" Handi on the shelve. I would think they should be able to track what guns have gone to private individuals and what ones are still waiting for loyal owner to take home just by Ser#. Personally I would much rather find a new old stock 2000-2005 H&R than one of the new one unless it was a caliber I needed. Kurt

I would say if they still have it then it might just be priced to high.    :-\

I just thought it was odd.   ;D

Sorry I don't know the answer to your question, but out of curiosity, what did Wal Mart charge for your rifle?
