« on: February 08, 2010, 11:18:12 AM »
Well I decide to spring on a new rifle its going to be a Ruger Hawkeye with the factory Hogue stock in 270. Does anyone own one or has shot one. I compared it to the Savage, Remington and Howa they had and this one felt great they have to get one in in 270 they only had 2 in ought six this is a non catalog for Ruger they have a tactical with that stock but this a sporter long action

I've got a Ruger Compact 7mm/08 and would like to replace the short factory wood stock with a synthetic. Anyone have good or bad with the Hogue? Also how much work to put it on?
Thanks..

I've only used the Hogue's on a Mini-14 and 10/22---and they work very well.

If you can work a screw driver---you can change the stock out.

For a bolt action --I'd look into the one with the full aluminium bedding---double the money of the plain stock---but saves you from messing with bedding--and pretty sure its stiffer too---seems I recall the aluminium frame goes through the whole stock.

I have a 270wsm m77 that shooots extremlly well. put a houge stock on it due to the fac (lam. purrty but slick). I bought the full bedded and now can't get to shoot. I like the new stock (look and feel) and am not blaming houge for the problem (yet ;))
The action droppped right in and seems to fit perfectlly. Have not had time to play with yet to see what I can figure out . I know the barrel is floated with the new stock as well as the old. Is there an order as to what screws you tighten first. Have taken many a gun apart and never had a problem. I really want this stock to work as this gun has always shot touching groups at 100yrds.  ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT.
Not ot highjack thread but this seems to fit right in with the OP ?

Well I picked up the Ruger on the 12 th and have taken it out to the range twice first go was to break in the barrel. No major events fired about 20 rounds of  factory 130 last group was a good 1 ¼ . Next outing was with my loads from my Win 70 and it did about a 1 ½ to 1 ¼  with the 130 and with one load of 150 Speer BT it cut a five shot group of .70 I plan on trying to  load some 140 Nosler BT and see how it does . I cleaned up the trigger a bit and it breaks at 3.5 pounds it came out the box at about 4 to 5 pounds but nice it other aspects.
