contender barrel question

The foerarm nuts on my 44 mag barrel is loose in the dovetail grove.  Should I just dink the dovetail slot or is there a better way to secure the nut?

The 44MAG probably doesn't justify it, but on some of my hardest recoiling handcannon barrels I had them spot welded (larger JDJ's, Super Bowers, the 416 Rigby, etc).   Might be an extreme fix, but the problem will never come back like it can with just a dink.

I would dink the dovetail with a small hammer.  The spot weld is not a bad idea, but I like to be able to adjust my forearms left or right if needed.  Sometimes the forearm does not perfectly center on the barrel and frame.  Purely a cosmetic issue though.

I have prickpunched all mine. It also keeps them from out when changing/storing barrels.

I have a 16" 44 mag that the front one loosened on. I took it out degreased it and used liquid green Caterpillar retaining compound. After I slipped it into the dovetail I installed the forearm and centered the barrel quickly before it set up. So far so good (probably 4 yrs now) its holding tight. I already had the retaining compound so I'm not out anything if the experiment does not work.

The thing I like is you can not detect a minor repair.

I personally used red loctite in the groove, making sure none got in the threads, then centered it and staked it in place with a punch. At least that way it can be removed if it ever gets damaged, and it hasn't worked loose in several years of competition.
