Done swapping around receivers
« on: November 22, 2009, 04:50:52 PM »
And lo and behold, it worked out!   ;D  The 45-120 barrel locked up tight, maybe a hair too tight, on the receiver I just got.  Ima happy boy!   :P  Now I can put my 45-70 barrel back on it's original (NC) receiver and screw on that nice carbine stock set!   ;D

I was going to put my extra set of BC sights on the 45-70 barrel, but the original iron sights are pretty nice...  :-\  We'll see.  I gotta develop that popgun load first... 300 gr. HP @ 11 - 1200 fps...   :D

I'm glad you're done shifting them around.  I've still got a shim in my max and want to get another frame to try.  In fact, I changed it yesterday and was looking for help.  Where were you when I needed ya ??? ???

Glad that worked for ya, as you may know the 223 Rem BB Ultra that I got did not lock up and would of had to be fitted.  I was able to trade that one away for the 204 Ruger barrel that I should be getting this week.

Again, glad this worked now go make some blood trails.

Well, Richard, ya done inspired me.  I spent the whole lousey weather morning swapping barrels and frames.  I got all but the .22-250 to lock up tight, that has the very barest movement.  I'll shoot it and may shim it, or get another frame.  On that frame, the latch goes down hard and sticks when released.  I've got to work on it.  The main thing is the Max and all the rest are perfect,  they lock up tight.  I just shot the max and it's dead nuts on.  Handi tinkering......what else to do on a crappy day. ;) :o

Oh, forgot to mention,...... Richard don't make no blood trails......not over a couple a feet er so.

Where were you when I needed ya ??? ???

Honey-do's all weekend...  :(  At least until I put my foot down (not real hard... that Kathie's a mean little white woman  :-[ ).  Then when she went off to a sale at Belk's I started working on replentishing my shim stock supply!   ;D

go make some blood trails.

I'd sure like to...  :-\  I'm down to my .260, 30/30 and Ruger SBH to hunt with... HEY!  :o  Perfect!  A doe and 2 fawns!   ;D  Yah, right...  ::)  I probably won't see a thing the rest of the season.   :'(

Those barrel/receivers are funny things.  I got a 25-06 barrel from one member and a receiver from another.  They fit perfectly together.

I wanted a dedicated receiver for the 45-120 so bought a complete TC.  TERRIBLE fit!  So I just kept the whole 38-55 rifle and went back to square one.

I just picked up another receiver and tried the 25-06 on it... it was real loose.  No problem, I was just curious anyway.  It has it's receiver.

Lastly, with eyes, fingers, legs and toes crossed, I tried the 45-120 barrel on the new receiver and, like I said, it was a real good if not great fit.

Now every Handi barrel has it's own receiver except the .410.  But that's part of my handy Handi ensamble so it will do without.  :D

I may just have been lucky, but I believe Tim when he says chances are you will have a receiver a barrel fits.  Matter of fact, I think everyone should have a couple extra receivers laying around just to be on the safe side!  Not me of course...  :-\  I'm finished buying barrels... nope... not me...  :P

Yeah, sure you are ::)  The .30-06 is happy on its new frame, but doesn't have quite enough latch engagement.  I'll take a light file to it tomorrow.  Enough for one day.
