Is the SB1 strong enough to use with a .357 mag barrel?

The short replay is yes.  H&R will put the .357 and .44 mags on the SB1 frames.  44 Man

IG if you can't find one, you can stub one into a 12 gauge barrel like I did. There wasa thread by I think maglvr on how to do it and mine works great. I bought an allready chambered 357 barrel from Gun Parts Corp, and it is perfect diamiter to fit in a 12 gauge chamber.

So would a 45 LC be considered low pressure?  I'd like to have a 45 LC barrel on my SB1.

I would think it would be considered low pressure.  If you look at the load data, even the hottest 45LC loads are lower in pressure than .357 loads. Factory 45LC loads would be substantially lower than that.

Thanks guys..  Billy; I don't have a 12 ga on hand, but I do have a 20..anything available for that? Of course, I may do better just swapping my 20 for a .357.

I feel this would also be just fine.

Current 357 and 44Mags come on this receiver. Just as a comparison, many of the heavier 45colt loads do not equal the 44 mags pressures. Personally, I would limit loads to "Ruger" levels.
