Looking for A-5 age/year made
« on: December 24, 2009, 04:53:29 AM »
My dad has an old Browning  12 gauge A5 with a serial number of B18630.  Also says St. Louis and "Special Steel" on the barrel - can anyone tell me when this was made?

jpuke, Your A5 was built in  about 1948. There are no solid records for those years so it is mostly conjecture from Browning sales records. Your gun falls in the years that Remington was making them( 1946-1951) for Browning and not FN.

IMO you have a Remington-built "American Browning", of which 38,000 were made in 12ga between 1940-47, with serial #'s ranging from  B5000-B43129.

The buttstock should have a typical Remington-style round knob pistol grip.
