Shortening Barrel on 500 Mag Handi??

I was just wondering if I would see any difference in performance of my rounds if I shortened the barrel on my 500 Handi from the stock 22" to 16.5".

What do you guys think?

You will loose some velocity but I guarantee you that whatever gets hit by the bullet ain't gonna know the difference!

Brandon I am considering doing the same thing myself when I get my 500 barrel. It's a good canidate sense it's a cartridge designed for a revolver anyway, so it should be very effecient in carbine length, though I know it can be a handful in a Handi from all I have read and seen.

My 500 handi barrel is at the gunsmith now getting shortened to 16.5".My thought was the same as myarmor.I think it will make a great treestand and brush gun.I will post a pic when I get it back.Busy time of the year for him .

For comparison, I get 2150fps with a max load of Lil'gun behind the 350gr XTP in my 22" Handi, Hodgdon data says 1912fps from a 10" barrel, so you're not likely to loose too much velocity.  ;)
