ihookem, I could have done the 30-40 as I also have that reamer as well.  I went with the least amount of work .307 win.  --- all that is required was to ream to .308win. the existing 30-30 rim is already cut in the existing bbl.  to do the 30-40  I would have had to cut the rim portion and alter the extractor /ejector.  no real problem just more work.  .307 brass was not a problem, I scored 200cases from a friend.  using .308 dies to reload with 30-30 shellholder.  Now that all this is done the 30-40 reamer will not clean up a .307 chamber so I am still looking for a 30-30 bbl. for a handi, If I find a good shooting 30-30 bbl. I am going to leave it alone - that's what I wanted to start with.  When I get time I will play with it again(recrown, heavy bullets, maybe heavy cast bullets, I have never sluged this bbl. either) did I mention anything about hind-sight?  having fun anyway, Bill439

Bill I have three Toppers in 30-30 and two of them will only group well with Barnes 130 grain X Bullets. I also use some 130 grain Hornady but it appears the shallow rifling in these barrels like those lighter copper bullets. I use a healthy charge of W748 and RP cases that weigh around 130 grains trimmed and sized. A Remington 9 1/2M primer and mine shoot better than a cheap rifle should. (3/4-1" groups) Maybe this will help you. I'm leaving in the morning for Minnesota on a 10 day whitetail hunt and am taking two Toppers as my rifle battery. Good Huntin' and Shootin'
