red dot on super red hawk
« on: August 10, 2003, 04:23:41 AM »
Well for reasons of eyesight I have decided to red dot my super red hawk.  It is 7-1/2 inche calibered in 44 mag.  I will be hunting both bowling pins and white tail.

I have a Millet red dot SP-1 on my Ruger Mark II and have had great success with it.  Both Rugers come with factory 1" rings and they seem substantial enough.

Does anyone have this 1" SP-1 on a similar 44 mag and how does it perform?

I guess I like the Millet as it is a resonable quality in a 1 inch tube with a 3 min dot.  Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Fred :D

I have put hundreds of full loaded 44 MAG through my Super Redhawk. It has a Millet SP-1 on it. I took a boar with it at a little over 25 yards in deeps woods. I have had no problems at all. I also put a red dot on my BFR in 500MAG but it is an Ultra Dot and I have had no problems at all with it either, after 300 rounds. I use red dots on all my handguns except my Encore in 30-06 and 22-250. I have a 625 with an Aim point and another Redhawk 44 MAG with a Pro point and 2 MarkII's with pro points. You just can't beat a red dot for fast target pick up.

RH1,

Thanks for your reply, I have ordered a SP-1 from Midsouth Shooter's Supply It sells for $75 bucks, best price I have found on this sight.

Thanks again,

Just to add my two cents, I have an Ultradot (www.ultradot.com) on my SRH, and it's been great after a couple of hundred rounds.  Costs a little more than the Millet ($115), but seems to be of higher quality.  Who cares, though, if the above posters are getting good results.

Millet broke on 2nd shot.

I fired two magnum  rounds thru the Super Redhawk, 44 and the front lense cracked.  I continued to shoot almost 100 rounds over three days and it still worked and I got 2 inch groups at 50 feet one handed.

Millet said to send the scope in, and a new one would be shipped out.

This is my second Millet sp-1 the other is on a Ruger Mark II 22lr, thousands of rounds and flawless performance (unless I leave the thing on).

I will give the new one a try.

New Scope Arrived This Week.

Finally got my replacement red dot scope from Millet.

It took a few weeks but they did not question how, just sent me a new scope.

It has been mounted zeroed and seen 200 stout hunting loads at 240 grains.

No problems and small groups.

Thanks Millet!
