Deer camp rifles...
« on: November 02, 2009, 05:49:40 AM »
Well I have decided what guns to take with me to deer camp this fall. My 22" 45/70 that shoots cloverleafs at 100 yards is going, I am also going to bring my shortened .243 that Larry trued up the chamber end on and parkerized, it now sits in a Survivor stock set up and wears a compact Simmons shotgun scope and is real light and "Handi". I am also going to bring my .22 Mag with the Survivor stock set and red dot sight which I use of coyotes (just in case). I will also be bringing along a short 20 gauge barrel for any errant targets of oppurtunity. I will bring some #6's and a few forster style slugs in case I head out into the thick stuff for deer on a rainy day.
I don't know if I will even see a deer let alone get a shot at one, but I know one thing, I will enjoy being at camp. My wife and I will be there and I thank God we both enjoy it and can enjoy it together.
The plans are to go up for a while hunting, then return home for a week (work you know), and to return for Thanksgiving in the Maine woods....<><....:)

Good luck Andy. My cousin invited me to go to his deer camp in North New Portland this week but I couldn't due to other commitments. Have a great time!

Thanks guys, it looks as if our departure may be delayed about one day but I would rather enjoy the trip than try to rush for just one extra day. The .243 is shooting great and all it seemed to need was some shooting! I have to get another compact scope for it to realize it's complete potential and will be looking for one in my travels....<><....:)

I am hoping for good news in tomorrows elections in VA, NJ, and northern NY state, if the "right" people win, it will be a good start to my time off....<><....:)
