Taking the trusty Handi out for the juvenile hunt this weekend.
« on: October 30, 2009, 08:58:55 AM »
Got the ground blind set up in the hardwoods and will be taking the boys 10 and 12 on the TN Young Sportsman hunt this weekend. Gonna be carrying the Handi 243 using the Fusion 95gr. Looking forward to watching my boys take part in the great outdoors. I look forward to this every year.

I'd give up my own deer hunt to let a kid get his first one.  The youth hunts are a wonderful thing.  The kid (12) across the road got a county record buck last October......first hunt, first day...he's still grinning ear to ear.  He won some nice prizes too.

I feel the same way Pete. I'd get more enjoyment out of seeing a kid get his or her first deer than shooting a trophy buck myself.

I've been hunting deer for a long time and haven't shoot one over 140.  If I was out with one of my sons(16 & 14) and one of those big Interlake bucks stepped out I'd be shooting backup to them.

I'm not into big bucks myself.  I let them walk and let my hunting buddies take them if they can.  I haven't got a square inch of wall space in this old farm house to hang a big head on.....it'd have to hang in the barn.  I'd rather tuck a year and a half old doe or two in the freezer.  Ummmm good.

Amen to that. The big, tough, old bucks aren't good for much but jerky.

I am with you Pete on this one. Young doe or a spike taste a lot better than a tough old buck.
I have killed a lot more does than Bucks Marv.

You're allowed to hunt juveniles down there?
