Model 7, rebarreling....
« on: December 12, 2009, 07:40:27 AM »
I am looking for someone that does rebarreling of these rifles.  What I want is to do is get my model 7 rebarreled to .260 Remington with a 22" or 23" sporter contour.  Any suggestions as to where to look?

I didn't have the "need" for such a rifle when they were producing the 700 in the caliber.

Would this be less expensive than buying a whole rifle?  The CDL with the 20" barrel might be close enough to what I want to finish with.

I forgot to ask...  Would a Model 700 takeoff barrel work on the Model 7 action?

It might but I'd not count on it. I think your cheapest option would be to trade for a Model Seven CDL in .260 Remington. They have 22" barrels.

Still we have at least two GBO Sponsors I can think of off the top of my head who does such work. SSK Industries is the longest running sponsor we have I believe and they do such work. Match Grade Machine also does this type of work. I might be missing someone else who is a sponsor and does that I'm not aware of. Wayne York of Oregon Gunsmithing might but his specialty is reboring and rechambering so I'm unsure if he does rebarrel work or not.

Give the three a call and talk it over with them.

There are a bunch of 'smiths who will rebarrel your Model 7.  Some of the aftermarket barrel manufacturers will even rebarrel rifles.  It will be more expensive than buying another rifle, especially if you sold yours first.

Actually, according to Remington's website, the .260 has a 20" barrel, but like I said that might be close enough to what I was wanting to do to be a good option.  It looks like the most economical way to go would be to sell the .243 I have and purchase a CDL in the .260 I want.

Thanks for the replies....
