A little OT, "Patty Rifle" Pic added
« on: October 13, 2009, 02:33:23 PM »
Yeah, I know this is the centerfire forum, but this is where I hang out.  I got a little 20 inch .22WMR with a clean barrel and very nice wood from a fellow member.  It came in today.  Patty's birthday was the 8th, and I didn't get her anything really special.  She came home from work and I said "How about this?"  She said "It looks like a Patty Rifle to me."  I said "Happy Birthday"............Oh Well :'(  Better luck next time.

Pete

Here's her little rifle with the red dot.

Ya gotta be kiddin ::)  This woman throws a knife and tomahawk, and is already working on blowing away the 270 yard gong with her .50 Hawken at next July's informal shoot in Grayling, MI.  I'd suggest you come over and pick it up :o  By the way, no one else shoots BP there.  She'll be up against a lot of custom rifles up to about .338 Mag.  She may not win, but she's gonna raise some eyebrows.  I gotta love her.  How lucky I was to find her.  It only took 50 years :D

Dan, you are so right, I hate buying expensive, useless junk to impress people.  I said a while back on one of these threads that a Handi .357 Mag reamed to Maximum would be a great gift for the right person.

I'm lucky enough to be with my wife since shortly after highschool in the mid '70s  -- We target shoot together a lot..  A .357 handi would make her happy. thanks for the idea  -- just when I was looking for a reason to buy a gun   !

I'll get to shoot it tomorrow morning.  I've got a 3-9x50 and a red dot and asked her which she wanted.  She chose the red dot.  It'll go on this evening, and I'll put it on paper for her.

I'll tell her Jerry said Happy Birthday :D

Yes Doug, I am blessed.  She's a special woman, strong, but not a bitch.  If she's got a gripe about something, it's legitimate.  We share a lot of things together, like hunting and shooting, camping, fishing, and a lot of work, and it's special.

I got ahead of my time today and got the red dot put on, and shot it to put it on paper centered at 25 yards.  Now it's her baby to sight in where she wants it.  Its a sweet little thing.

lee1954, the .357 Handi will astonish you.  You'll shoot it and think you've got a thousand dollar rifle in your hand.  Ream it to Max and you open a door to another world.

DP, the thing that brings tears to my eyes is that she whips my butt every time we shoot against each other.  Her eyes are so much better than mine, and her Indian patience is there.  She doesn't rush a shot.

Pete,

I went to work for the White Alice System in Alaska in 1968 as electronics tech.  The company (RCA) sent me to the Bear Creek site outside of Tanana for three months to get trained on the equipment.  One of the guys there, and I don't remember his name, got me started in black powder when he sold me a little 1851 Navy Colt replica, with a can of powder, some caps and balls, and a bullet mould for $35.  He won the local turkey shoot Thanksgiving Day of 1967 with a muzzle loading rifle.  This was the second year that he won it, and they were threatening to disqualify black powder guns because of this.

Your Sweetie will probably clean house with that Hawken, just as that technician did so many years ago!

The .357 Max was one of the guns I took to the Grayling shoot last Summer.  There were 3 or four guys shooting the 275 yard gongs offhand with custom rifles, 2 to 5 thousand dollar jobs.  I didn't out shoot them with my Handy, but they didn't outshoot me either.  We all pretty much matched one another.  Two of the guys asked to shoot the Handi, and I think they were impressed.
