Hey Tim got a question
« on: October 14, 2009, 12:18:37 AM »
Tim

Since I have named you King of Handi Rifles  ;D  I got a question for you.

The one thing I noticed on my new 7mm-08 is that the cases have to be extracted, as they do not eject when breaking the breach.  I was kinda surprized, but then again I don't have to worry about getting hit in the face with a flying case either    ;)

Is this now the norm for our Handi Rifle barrels to extract and not eject?

All the new barrels except rimfires and shotguns are now extractors.

Tim, why don't you show the improved extractor that you installed on my .445 to your guy at Remington?  Perhaps they'd run with it.

Pete, thanks

I remember I lost several cases when they "Popped" out and gone while hunting with other Handi Rifles in the past.  I prefer the extractor change.

Thanks again.

Jon, that's exactly why all my Handis are now extractors.

The one Tim made for me pokes the case out almost twice as far as the factory extractor.  It is really nice.

Is there anything in the FAQs about the extractor Tim made?

Now that would be a plus if they extracted twice as far as factory does.

Thanks Jon, it's all in the FAQs,  the only change I know H&R is really interested in is the lower hammer spur and lighter hammer extension ala M94 Winchester style, I sent pics of that to them. It's real easy to improve a factory extractor by using a factory ejector and a short spring between the extractor cam and the ejector to push the case out further, I haven't modified a factory extractor to work that way yet, but it could be done, the extractor is longer than an ejector, so it would have to be shortened and the forward end modified.
