A Gold Medal in Golf?
« on: October 09, 2009, 09:50:47 AM »
So what do you think.. should golf be an Olympic sport?   Could be one of the few Olympic sports where the athletes aren't washed up when they reach their mid 20s.   :D

I am glad too see this---on several levels.
It is a good sport---I would have preferred it be played at match play, but we can change the format over time.
The good thing about golf, as Brett brought up, is you can play it well into your 80's at some level.
It is tougher to play at a high level the older you get but it holds your interest forever and is fun at any level. The yips creep in and the swing shortens but you can still talk trash with your buddies and have fun--play for a beer or a dollar and talk all the trash you can back up------or not. :D

Grown ups chasing a small white ball around all day trying to sink it into a hole in the ground.

Lets hope not.

I promise you, you don't want me near any golf course. I like driving the cart & having a few cocktails thats about it. The grounds keepers usually turn in their resignation when they find out I have a tee time. And I don't blame them.

The thing I love (or maybe hate) about golf is that you can shoot an absolutely miserable round of golf but there will always be that hand full of great shots during that round that keeps you wanting to come back for more.  :D

You golfers know what I'm talking about.  ;D

It has not because it seems not to be an issue. Technology, on the other hand has been under great scrutiny.
It has been discussed and all involved have said they would be willing to adhere too any directives.
golf is the only sport that polices itsownself and players call penalties on themselves.

The Olympic players won't be able to smoke cigars or drink cocktails on the course so this will never work.

Yessir it brings you back the next time. The water and trees are ball magnets and the harder you try the bigger the slice. When you get a seventy yard eagle you cant figure out why you double boogie the net 2 holes. Ah I hate this game ,cant stand it, putting my clubs on ebay, time to call for my tee time.

Q How do you know when it's time for a golfer to consider taking up a different sport?

Why not?...I think it was once, wasn't it?  Should be for amateurs, though.  Problem is golf is one professional sport where chemical performance enhancement is not scrutinized, which may be an issue with the Olympic committee.

I believe you are wrong about drug testing in golf.

If you believe chemical enhancement will improve your play.........have another beer  :D :D :D

Personally I love the challenge of the game.  I'd say it's not like other sports where once you have it down, you're good to go.

With golf....as soon as you think you have it down.......um....well......you don't  :D

No. There are plenty of other venues for golf. I worked for a man whose organization formally petitioned the olympic committee to consider ballroom dancing as an olympic sport. Somehow that didn't seem quite right to me either.
