Choate stock and forend on H&R 158 30 30
« on: September 25, 2009, 06:07:15 PM »
I'm in need of a new stock and I'm looking at ordering the Choate rear stock and forearm for the H&R 158 30 30 I picked up today. Does anyone have any info on this?

I don't want to spend the money if I'm just going to get it and it not fit. Thanks everyone!

Those are the same Choate stock they make for the standard synthetic stocked H&Rs, as I stated in your other thread, they may or may not fit the 158.

If the barrel is the older type that has the thinner taper prevalent on the older topper and combo's, and the stock is made for the newer versions of NEF's and H&R's there will be a sizeable gap between the barrel and the forend fitting from side to side. It will work but it won't look like it fits very well simply because it doesn't.

You can get a forend that fits from Numrich www.e-gunparts.com that was made for the older barrels. I pieced together three older 30-30's like this and have a present day synthetic factory pistol grip buttstock, mated with an older black painted wood forend, and they look presentable, and fit very well.

I can post a pic if you would like, along with the ordering number from Numrich. You could also just match your present forend to synthetic stock.
